“Just one? Let’s see…”

“With Jinora, I guess it’d have to be listening to her talk about what she’d read in one of her history books this one night. It wasn’t like it was anything special, but everything I’d always thought was so boring really… you know, came to life when she was talking about. You could see she found it all so exciting. And she’s so smart, too!”

“This one night Ikki was there for me when I couldn’t sleep. She was so great, just wanted to cheer me up. I can already tell she’s gonna be just like her mom, always caring about everyone around her.”

“And Meelo— Well, there was the time we played hide and seek all over the island and just had a lot of fun. They’re all great kids. I mean, as far as kids go.”

Not that she had that much experience with any.

“Uh…”

She knew exactly what she’d do. Earthbend a cage around him and let him work it out of his system, or sleep it off, or something. Somehow, she figured that would not go over well with his parents, however.

“Watch him carefully?” Right.

“I love Tenzin’s family. They’re like my home away from home, you know?”

“Pema’s so loving and gentle. But she has no problem speaking her mind, either! I should probably be more like her…” Ha, like that was ever going to happen.

“Meelo’s a typical kid. A little hyper, I guess… Ikki’s only slightly more mellow, but she tries to hard to be mature and grown up like Jinora.”

“And Jinora’s great, too! Smart and an amazing airbender already. Definitely taking after her grandfather. I think maybe she could stand to have a little more fun sometimes…”

“They all really mean a lot to me. And I usually get to eat dinner with them every night, so yeah, I do! I’m really, really lucky.”

“Hi there! I think they’re great!” she beamed. “Meelo’s a little, uh, hyper, but he kind of reminds me of myself when I was that young.”

“Ikki tries so hard to be just like her older sister. And she does a pretty good job, too! She’s already shaping up to be an amazing airbender.”

“And Jinora…” Honestly, it was no small amount of shame that Korra felt that a ten-year-old could airbend the pants off of her, but she’d gotten over the initial envy to actually appreciate the girl’s help with her training.

“I just wish she’d realize she doesn’t have to be so serious all the time. She’s still a kid—but I think she just really wants to make her parents proud. And she’s so smart! She’ll take the world by storm someday.”
