Because being a bender didn’t make them a criminal, and even though Avatar Aang had shown her the price that Yakone paid for his pride, Shady Shin, Lightning Bolt Zolt, and all of them were just as much victims to Amon’s tyranny as anyone. Amon hadn’t been fighting to keep the peace when he’d stripped their bending away—he’d just been punishing them for his own past.
